Just in time for winter and the holiday season, we're in touch with Patagonia and looking at putting together a team order if there's enough interest. Many items are due to be back in stock within the next couple of weeks, but inventory goes fast. Now taking suggestions for items to offer! If you'd like Patagonia added to MBU's inventory, you can respond here in the forum or you can email asanico@mbunitedwaterpolo.com with the exact name of the Patagonia item along with its product number. Then stay tuned for an announcement within the next week or so!

Copied from Teamsnap email sent 04.04.21 to all Spring Session participants I am writing with an update on the 2021 National Junior Olympics, or JO's. JO's is scheduled for July 17 - 20, 2021 (boys) and July 22 - 25, 2021 (girls) in Orange County, CA. This multi-day tournament, held alternately in Southern and Northern California each summer, is the largest water polo tournament in the world and is considered to be the national championships for USAWP clubs. Typically over the course of the four day tournament, teams can expect to play 6 - 8 high quality matches against teams from all over the nation. There has been some discussion recently that due to COVID-19, JO's might be conducted regionally, meaning separate tournaments would be held in Norcal, Socal, Central CA, etc., but that structure seems unlikely at this point. An official and final announcement from USAWP regarding the location is expected this week, and it seems most probable they will keep it in Orange County. Fortunately, MBU has considerable flexibility in terms of whether and how we choose to participate in JO's this summer, meaning, we could choose to qualify as many teams as possible, enter just a select few (most likely scenario), or even none at all, and we'll be using this week and next to make those decisions. Our decision making process will likely include a clubwide survey, and your response and feedback is greatly appreciated. It is important to note that regardless of our final decision regarding JO's, we will still run a comprehensive summer program for all age groups, including 3 - 4 practices weekly and numerous competitive opportunities. Note: In a typical summer, meaning non-pandemic, and given that we are a competitive USAWP club, we would ordinarily look to qualify as many teams as possible for NJO's, as we believe it is is a highly worthwhile experience and an important part of an athletes development, but given the pandemic we naturally have to approach the decision to proceed more cautiously this year, and as well informed as possible. As a reminder, in order to play in JO's our teams must qualify through the Pacific Zone NJO Qualifying Tournament. The qualifying tournament, which typically includes 4 - 6 games per team, provides excellent competition against teams from Northern California. Athletes that want to participate in JO's must be available for all qualifying games. The tentative weekends for the qualifying tournaments this year are: June 18 - 20 (10-un, 12-un, & 14-un boys & girls) June 25 - 27 (16-un & 18-un boys & girls) Depending on the number of entries and COVID-19 restrictions, there is a chance that the weekend of June 11 - 13 will have to be used for qualifying matches as well, but Pacific Zone leadership has assured clubs they are going to do all they can to keep it on the weekends listed above. I will be sending out more information regarding JO's in the coming days, but hopefully, this provides some useful information to get everyone thinking about it. Thanks. Coach Burke

As always, please review them carefully and be sure to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. A few important notes. 1. Hello - I hope that everyone is doing well and looking forward to the start of summer water polo! It's hard to believe, but practices start this coming Monday, May 6. Each week, I will send out a newsletter with team announcements and the schedule for the upcoming week.  First a few important announcements... Summer registrations We currently have 15 girls registered for our 16-under and 18-under group. I would love to see our registrations closer to 20, so if you know of any girls in the area that might be interested in playing for MB United this summer, please encourage them to come out! We will be inviting some of our top 14-under girls to practice with us on occasion, and there will be times when female coaches and/or college players get in the water as well, so we should be fine in terms of having enough to scrimmage, but with only 15 girls officially registered it is very important that everyone attends practice. While registration is technically closed as of today, if there is additional interest from others in the community, I am more than happy to include them in our summer program. Competition schedule I am in the process of finalizing our local/regional competition schedule. I expect to have that in place within the next few days and will post it on the website and share it as a Google Doc as well. I expect us to play in one or two local tournaments in June as well as in July. For now, please be sure to set aside June 1 (Santa Cruz) and July 7 (Los Gatos), as I have already entered us in tournaments on those two days.  National Junior Olympics By early next week, I should have a more complete picture as to the status of 16-under JO qualifying and JO's for our team. As of today, we have enough commitments (11) to compete as a 16-under team at JO's, but with only 8 - 9 girls committed for the first weekend of JO qualifying (June 8 - 9) and only 8 - 9 girls committed for the second weekend of JO qualifying (June 14 - 16), we are right on the cusp of not being able to enter a team in the qualifying tournament. Given the number of games we'll have to play, and the physicality and competitiveness of the games, I am not a huge fan of entering us in JO qualifying with only 1 - 2 subs on the bench. I am happy that we have 11 committed for JO's itself, but we'll need a couple more bodies in order to successfully navigate the qualifying tournaments. Please know, I have worked tirelessly on this and will continue to do so in the coming days in hopes that we can gather up a few more girls for the June 8 - 9 and June 14 - 16 weekends. Stay tuned for a more formal announcement on this by early next week, as well as my thoughts on other possible options for travel/training trips if we don't have enough to enter JO qualifying.  KK Clark & Kami Craig Clinic Please be sure to register for Olympic Gold Medalists KK Clark and Kami Craig's Water Polo Skills Clinic taking place on Sunday, May 19, at Stevenson. I was KK's high school coach at Sacred Heart Prep and she is a great teacher of the game and mentor for young women. I highly recommend registering as it is going to be a great experience for the girls.  Practice Schedule May 6 - 12 Monday, May 6 4:30 - 6:30 pm @ Santa Catalina Tuesday, May 7 4:30 - 6:30 pm @ Santa Catalina Thursday, May 9 4:30 - 6:30 pm @ Santa Catalina Saturday, May 11 10:00 am - 12:00 pm @ Stevenson  Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday! Have a great weekend. Coach Burke

Dear 16-Under MB United Families -  I hope that all of you are doing well. I'd like to extend a warm invitation for 16-under athletes and their parents to join us at the home of Mike and Chrissi Morgan (check email for address) on Friday, March 22, at 6:00 pm to enjoy a bite to eat and to hear important information about our Summer 2019 16-Under Girls Program. Dinner and drinks will be provided.  While attendance at the meeting is not mandatory, I highly recommend that returning athletes who are interested in playing this summer show up along with their parents, so that you can learn first hand about our summer plans, as well as gain an overview of the 2019 - 2020 calendar. One of the main topics I will be discussing is the National Junior Olympics in Southern California, July 25 - 28. We will be attempting to qualify a 16-under girls team for the National Junior Olympics this summer and the planning process is well underway. It is my hope that there will be enough interest in JO's for us to pull this off, and regardless of whether we ultimately qualify or not, having this as a goal for our club and participating in the qualifying games, will provide an outstanding opportunity to compete and improve as a team.  Lastly, we will be offering a summer program for 18-under girls as well, however, we will not be attempting to qualify an 18-under team for JO's in 2019. As our current 16-under team ages up in 2019 - 2020 and beyond, we will of course be looking to compete in JO's as an 18-under group.  Be sure to keep spreading the word about our program to high school girls and their families from the entire Monterey Bay region! I am looking forward to a great summer. Coach Burke
